Arloid One Mobile Application
for smart home living
DESCRIPTION
I was tasked to work on the existing design for the Arloid One Smart Home Mobile Application. The previous design done by the designer had too many flaws and he practically lifted the design off Apple Home mobile application.
ABOUT CASE
When i first took a look at the application design itself, i was wondering how did this design even got approved. The person who previously worked on this probably had no idea how smart home works. The usability issues were countless as well as poorly design user interfaces that were poorly managed and quality control within the app itself was not there. There was far too many issues with the design and thus i decided to drop the entire UI/UX of the app and started from scratch instead.
Based on my experience and understanding of IoT. I knew my stuffs pretty well, much more than an average Joe. As a smart device user myself, i knew exactly what are the most wanted features and functions that the users need but of course i didn't substantiate the theory based on my own personal experience but i still went on and did my research field work with a group of users. Upon completion of the research and analysis process, i started to rework on the entire workflow of the application itself..
Moving onto wireframes that i presented to my CTO and CEO, they agreed to the new workflow and then i proceeded onto the new UI design for the app. THe new design was more informative but yet simple in terms of usability and there were still negative space for the users to rest their eyes when they are using it. Core functions and features are listed right before their eyes and they did not had to scroll like a million years to reach the bathroom in their house as compared to the previous design. Overall, the new design was sleek and minimalistic in terms of UI design and the user experience was definitely a lot more accessible to the end users.
